About five weeks ago ITV held a press screening for the new series of Downton Abbey.

After a screening of episode one of the new series a special guest was revealed: Dame Kiri Te Kanawa who will be seen later in the series playing opera legend Nellie Melba – and she serenaded the gathered journalists with two songs, O Mio Babbino Caro by Puccini and Dvorak’s Songs My Mother Taught Me.

There was a short round table interview with Executive Producers Gareth Neame and Liz Trubridge, Historical Advisor Alastair Bruce, Allen Leech, who plays Tom Branson, and Dame Kiri.
